Help Turning LocalHost into web server

Hi I have a ubuntu desktop with localhost installed and working fine. What steps do I have to take now to make the IP address of the machine accessible via the web, so people can view the contents of my server just like going to any website and typing in that URL?

    1. make sure your IP can be resolved through the internet. ie - get an internet qualified IP address.
    2. install apache or Lighthttpd ( your choice here ) + all the other things like php or MySQL with it
    3. Once all those are running u might want to get a hostname for your machine, either to tag on to your office DNS server or use one of the many free DNS services out there like DynDnS.
    4. Welcome new webmaster

failing which if u find the steps above too short? try looking up "howtoforge" they have lots of step-by-step installation on how to get things done
