I'd like to install VNC on one of my computers and be able to access it from any other computer -- without installing anything.
GoToMyPC does this now and I'm very happy, but I'm curious if there are free alternatives out there.

Many VNC servers support a Java applet that can be accessed by any web browser that has the Java plug-in installed. Usually this is accessed on port 5800 + display number. For example, pointing the browser to remotehost.com:5800 would download the applet.
This of course needs to be enabled on the server. Directions for setting up Windows installations of TightVNC or RealVNC
